The Best Way to See Croatia: A One-Week Sailing Itinerary “There was a palace, and out of a palace raised the city.” This well-known phrase is the actual history of the city of Split. In the year 256 AD Roman emperor Gaius Valerius Aurelius Diocletianus commissioned a building of a palace for his retirement, not knowing that he set the foundation for a city. As the inhabitants of the nearby Roman town Salona sought refuge inside the palace’s walls shelter from Avaric and Slavic incomers, this started the transformation of Diocletianus’s palace into a City.

Day 2

Island of Hvar: As you pass through the passage in the Adriatic Sea between the Dalmatian islands of Šolta and Brač known as “Splitska vrata” or Split Gates, the island of Hvar is invitingly positioned in front of your vessel’s bow. In the year 385 BC, a Greek vessel from the island of Pharos arrived in the deep fjord of the island of Hvar. As the time passed, sailors formed a settlement that turned this island into what is today known as Stari Grad. The town is famous today for its Greek and Roman archaeological artefacts as well as the manor of poet Petar Hektorovic.

Day 3

Island of Hvar: The next point of importance on the island of Hvar is the town of Hvar. The town is a renowned tourist destination. “Paklinski otoci”, which translates to Hell Islands, is just the right spot for docking as we explore the Pakleni Islands. Here, you can easily enjoy the beauty of nature, while the modern pulse of high style vacation is near you. The town has one of the oldest theatres, an attraction you must absolutely see. As dusk falls, you should stream through the town streets and soak in the fun while seeking world-class celebrities.

Day 4

Island Scedro: This uninhabited island will provide a solitary location for all those who seek sun and sea leisure in tranquility. Cove after cove is how we’d describe this small island’s shoreline. Find your own little cove for a natural experience of absolute physical and mental equilibrium.

Day 5

Island Vis: Neolithic community inhabited the island and named it Issa (name it bears slightly modified today – Vis). Throughout history, the island was an Ionian settlement and fishing was their main industry in this Greek polis and Roman town. From the Second World War until the 1990s, the island entered into “war era” and acted as a cold war military stronghold. Nowadays, all those historic monuments - Ionian, Greek, Roman, Cold War - are major attractions on the island. Visit Roman villas, cold war underground installations or simply experience the life of the island in one of the “konoba”s.

Day 6

Island Bisevo: Southwest of the island of Vis is a small island Bisevo. It’s world-famous for the underwater cave named “Plava Spilja”, or Blue Cave. This natural attraction is an unavoidable spot for all visitors in the region. Before you set sails to Split, take advantage of the crystal seawater of the island for a swim.
