Cape Verde

The Cape Verde islands lie 460 miles off the West African coast in the Atlantic Ocean. The islands are divided into two groups; the Islands over the Wind (North Group) and the Windward Islands (southern group). The northern group includes Santo Antao, Sao Vicente, São Nicolau, Sal, Boa Vista, Santa Luzia, Branco and Raso. The southern group includes Maio, Santiago, Fogo, Brava and Ilhéus Rombo Thurs. The 15 islands are located on the African plate and are of volcanic origin. The highest point of Cape Verde is 2,829m at Pico do Fogo (Mount Fogo) on the island of Fogo. The capital of Cape Verde - Praia, is located on Santiago Praira and is the largest city and economic center of the islands.

Day 1

Sal: Best known for its white pristine beaches, grab a margarita and unwind on Santa Maria’s beach. If you’re up for an adventure, learn more about Sal’s history in salt production as you float about in what remains of the salt flats that used to operate in the 1700s.While visiting, look out for the island’s exotic birds like the occasional frigate bird and the grey heron.

Boa Vista: Blessed by vast stretches of untouched golden sand, surrounded by crystal clear waters and boasting a relaxed and low-key atmosphere, Boa Vista is the perfect destination for a rejuvenating holiday. Encounter loggerhead turtles on Ervatao Beach, located on the southeast coast of Boa Vista.Visit the Cabo Santa Maria shipwreck; having run in Santa Maria in 1968 while sailing to Brazil, the wondrous wreckage now provides one the best photo opportunities in the archipelago.

Santiago: The largest island in the archipelago and home to Cape Verde’s capital, Praia, Santiago is an island rich in history, while also functioning as the main hub for inter-island transport across the country. Green valleys and plush plantations meet rugged mountains and bustling African towns, offering visitors yet another side to Cape Verde’s impressive diversity.

Day 4

Fogo: Located in the south-west of the archipelago and famed for its dramatic and picturesque volcanic scenes, Fogo is a true highlight of any holiday to Cape Verde. Thousands of years ago, Fogo rose from the sea in a volcanic eruption; a fitting introduction to an island that is renowned for its fiery activity, with its striking volcano, Pico do Fogo, standing at 2,829m and dominating the island’s landscape.Thus, while visiting Cape Verde seeing this volcano is a must.

Day 5

São Vicente: São Vicente is home to some of Cape Verde's greatest musicians, writers and thinkers. Considered to be the cultural hub of the island, São Vicente's capital, Mindelo, is proud of its rich tradition of music and art and has a vibrant nightlife, with a lively buzz of music throughout the pubs, restaurants and nightclubs. Take a one day tour exploring the islands many shops are rustic architecture.
