The dreamy aeolian islands: an Italy destination you can't miss If you're a sailing enthusiast, the Aeolian Islands should be on your bucket list. This volcanic archipelago is located 15 nautical miles from Portorosa and offers a unique experience for tourists of all levels. It's also a beautiful chain of seven volcanic islands located just off the coast of Sicily. From Lipari, the largest and most famous of the seven, to Vulcano, Stromboli and Salina, each island offers a unique landscape and an unforgettable experience.

Day 1

Portorosa Our starting point for this journey will be located at the nearest harbour to reach the Aeolian Islands, Portorosa. We’ll have a slow and easy start to the day as we get settled into the boat that you’l call your home for the week.

Day 2

Alicudi After settling in the harbour of Portorosa, we will be heading to our main destination, the island of Alicudi. This small and quiet island was once a famous target of pirate incursions because of its thriving flora and fauna. Alongside its abundant nature, Alicudi is also home to cobalt blue beaches that have rich depths of the sea. Watersports and hiking activities are highly recommended to do on this island.

Day 3

Filicudi The second day will be spent on the oldest island of the Aeolian Archipelago, Filicudi. This crescent-shaped island is well known for its crystal clear waters and dramatic volcanic cliffs. One of the caves that must be remembered is ""Grotta del Bue Marino"" or ""the Cave of the Sea Cow"" which is a sea cave that can only be accessed by swimming. Filicudi's dramatic cliffs and serene waters make it a popular spot for scuba diving and swimming.

Day 4

Salina After a day of relaxation on Filicudi, we will be heading to the greenest island of the Aeolian chain, Salina. This lush and verdant island is a nature lover's paradise with its hiking trails, volcanoes and vineyards. One of the highlights of Salina is the twin volcanoes: Mount Fossa delle Felci, the highest point on the island, and Monte dei Porri. Salina is also a famous producer of Malvasia, a sweet dessert wine that you must try!

Day 5

Lipari Our fourth day will be spent on the largest and most populated island of the Aeolian chain, Lipari. This vibrant island is a perfect mix of history, culture and natural beauty. From its ancient Greek ruins to its stunning beaches, Lipari has something for everyone. One of the must-sees on Lipari is the Museo Archeologico Regionale Eoliano, a world-renowned archaeological museum that houses a collection of artefacts from the Aeolian Islands.

Day 6

Vulcano Continuing our journey, we will be exploring the island of Vulcano. This small island is home to the active volcano, Mount Vulcano. Visitors can hike to the top of the volcano and enjoy the stunning views of the Aeolian Islands. Another popular activity on Vulcano is mud baths, which are said to have therapeutic properties. Porto Levante bay is famous for its black sand that engulfs the whole bay and its hot water made by underwater volcanoes.

Day 7

Panarea Our next destination will take us to the chic island of Panarea. This small and exclusive island is a favourite among the rich and famous. From its luxury hotels to its designer shops, Panarea has everything you need for a perfect vacation. The island is also known for its nightlife, with many bars and clubs staying open until the early hours of the morning. Despite its reputation, Panarea still retains its natural beauty with its crystal clear waters and rocky coastline.

Day 8

Stromboli Our last stop on this journey will be the island of Stromboli. This small island is home to the active volcano that has been erupting for 2000 years, Mount Stromboli. Visitors can hike to the top of the volcano and enjoy the stunning views of the Aeolian Islands. Another popular activity on Stromboli is stargazing, as there is very little light pollution on the island. After spending a night at Stromboli, we will now head back to Palermo to end our journey on Aeolian Island.
